How do you know that the lifevests are appropriately sized?

We offer one youth and one adult vest with each kayak. The adult vest is universally sized and fits any adult between 90 and 300 lbs. The youth vest fits youth between 50 lbs and 90 lbs. All vests are US Coast Guard Approved Type III. All users must agree to the minimum age, height, and weight restrictions prior to rental.

What if someone capsizes?

We use extra wide sit on top kayaks that are designed for maximum stability and beginning users, making them very difficult to capsize. Unlike sit-in kayaks that fill up with water when capsized, our sit-on-top kayaks are easy to flip over and get back in the rare event of a capsize.

Are there any age restrictions?

Yes, all users must be age 13 and up. This is clearly marked on signage, in the app, and in the rental agreement which each user signs.

What if the conditions are too dangerous to kayak?

We instruct all users to check water and weather conditions before renting equipment. If necessary, we can also provide admin access to our city partners - which enables you to turn on and turn off the program at any point for any reasons if you want to prevent rentals.

How do you prevent kayaking at night?

We restrict operating hours to daylight hours. Users may only start rentals during the operating hours (e.g. 6 am - 8 pm).

What type of safety instruction is provided to users?

All users must engage in an in app safety tutorial in the rent.fun mobile app that educates users on basic water safety tips. These tips are reinforced with on-site signage

How is the city protected from liability?

First, all uses must agree to the rental agreement (aka “waiver”), under which the user expressly assumes all risk and releases the land owner from liability. Second, the services agreement between rent.fun and city and includes indeminifcaiton provisions which state that rent.fun will cover your legal expenses in the event that you are sued. Third, rent.fun adds the city as an additionally insured on our insurance policy.

What type of insurance does rent.fun carry?

We will add our government agency partners as additionally insured under our policy, which includes $1m of General Liability Coverage, $5m aggregate.

Does the city need to have insurance to cover this?

No. Rent.Fun owns and manages all equipment. We have a $5m general liability insurance policy. We add all our government agency partners as additional insured on this policy.

What happens if the city gets sued?

Our standard agreement with cities include indemnification provisions, which state that rent.fun will cover the city’s legal expenses in the event of a claim.
