How self-service rentals work
How do people pay for the rentals?
All users must create an account in the rent.fun mobile app and add their credit card / debit card information prior to starting a rental. A $100 hold is put on their account to deter fraudulent rentals.
Are there any age restrictions?
Yes, users must be 18 and up to rent our equipment.
Do you have to make a reservation in advance to rent?
No. All rentals are on demand and no reservations are required. Kayak availability is updated in real time in the rent.fun mobile app - so prior to heading to the park, users can look in the app to see how many kayaks are available.
How do you know if equipment is returned? What happens if equipment is not returned?
Users must add their credit card prior to rental and must also use the app to take a picture of the equipment in the locker prior to ending their rental. This deters most theft. If something is stolen, we charge the user’s credit card for the cost of the item, per the terms of the rental agreement that they signed.
How much does it cost to rent?
We customize the rental pricing based on each location and our partner’s goals. Most rent.fun programs charge “market rates”(e.g. $25 for a 2 hour rental). Other programs offer discounted rates, (e.g. $7 per hour). We also offer memberships, for example, a “Season’s pass” for $50 that gets you unlimited 2-hour rentals.
Can a partner use Wi-Fi if cellular service is not an option? If there is no cell phone service, we can operate on Wi-Fi and have done it before. However, to implement the technology and hardware to support this option, there would be an additional activation fee of $5,600.
